EXPLORING IMAGINATION
Patty K Photography was established in 2010. Since then Patty has been capturing the Wonder of Childhood for many over the years. The wonder began with her own son. With the struggle of her own child not wanting anything to do with the camera is how Imagination Sessions began. PKP opened a world of a different kind of approach for ALL CHILDREN to be captured in a magical way, that not only the parents have an amazing memory for a lifetime, but the child never forgets their day of “being special”. Years later Patty K’s son was diagnosed with Autism. Since then it has been her goal to show that all children ARE TRULY amazing. That they see the world with sprinkles and we loose that magical power once we are adults.

CREATIVITY
Patty K’s love of taking photos blossomed after my love of memory keeping. She worked for several paper craft companies like Echo Park Paper, SEI, and Pebbles Inc. Patty K has been published in many magazines like Cards, Scrapbook Trends, including some photography mentions as well. It is her joy to be creative and share my creativity with others.

Curious About the Magic and Wonder
As the years go by I have gotten asked a few of photography related questions from some amazing photographer fans. I am by no means the “pro” of all pros, but am happy to help out when I can, for those just starting out OR just super BIG “pkp” Fans
- When did you start your business?
-
I took my first paying client May 30, 2011. I started out offering a “Portfolio Building” Discount for a few months and changed my pricing to the “professional” local area . This was a great way to introduce myself to the area, then also show my local competition that I respected the market.
- What’s in your BAG? What Bag do you use?
-
- Canon 5D Mark III
- 50mm 1.2L
- 24mm 1.4L
- 35mm 1.4L
- 135mm 1.2L
- 8-15mm Fisheye 1.4L
I have two favorite Camera Bags. A lime green one from Cheeky Lime & a Pink Purse like bag from Kelly Moore. Both are great and hold up super well.
My favorite go to lens is my 135L.
- How do you have such clean and sharp images?
-
When starting to learn my camera I jumped head first into Manual Mode. I honestly had no clue about post processing (editing). My very first edit of my son was scary (he was so yellow). From then on, my goal was to get the best SOOC (straight out of camera) images I could. Even though I know my editing programs now, I still do very minor tweaks to my final images. I have been shooting in JPEG for years (shocker I know). Just recently I switched over to RAW (which I love)
- Where do you get all your props?
-
Most of my props smaller props are from various local antique and craft stores. Some of my larger more “unique” props were made by my husband and painted by myself. I didnt know I had such a crafty man on my hands. It’s been so fun to create PKP Original Props together. Mr. PKP has created a Carousel Horse, Gypsy Wagon, Outdoor Studio, Circus Wagon, Camper, and smaller tables/stands.
- Do you mentor?
-
PKP offers limited Imagination Mentoring Sessions for out of state photographers who are already established but need a little help with Organization & some more Sparkle !!! For more information feel free to contact to see if we will be a great fit !
- The PKP Studio?
-
After 8 years in business, I’m proud to say PKP finally has a Studio. I always thought studios were for newborn photographers and what would I do with one. It has been magical to have a space. So how did this space happen?
My studio is a Morton Horse Barn. It was here on the property when we will built our final home. It use to have four horse stalls, completely filled with dirt. We hired a concrete company to fill in the stalls that had no flooring. My amazing husband dry walled the what was office in the barn (which is now the dressing room). He also dry-walled my main shooting area. I kept two stalls to keep the look of the barn and also have a closets.
We painted the concrete flooring with Valspar Concrete Paint. Which I have to say its held up pretty well. The walling I used Outdoor Gloss paint so I could wipe the walls down if I need too. The Shiplap was in the barn and faux brick walls were also added.
